More on Trust Betrayed

This is among the saddest days I’ve ever experienced.  Today the Jesuits of the Northeast Province of the United States released the names of Jesuits (most deceased, some not) who have been credibly accused of sexual abuse, mostly of minors. Those Jesuits include one who was the student counselor at the Jesuit high school I attended and who played a significant role in my own entrance into the Jesuits (I left the order several year later).  Another was one of my Latin teachers in the same school, and a third was President of that same school for many years after I left it.  These men were a good deal older than I.

Four others were fellow seminarians, men close to my age, who stayed in the Jesuit order for years after I left it. That makes seven Jesuits in all.

While it would be appropriate for me to make some comment on all the betrayals of trust these Jesuits were responsible for, I simply cannot get past my current image 8 1sadness. Maybe later when my equanimity has returned.
